Part of the aim of this podcast is to give voice to our stories as Daughters of Mormonism. This episode is an interview with Jenne, one of our panelists.

In this interview she talks about her journey toward finding her voice as an advocate and discovering her personal mode of spirituality. Jenne began as a Unitarian Universalist, later converting to LDS church in the aftermath of her father's death. Now she calls herself a Universalist Mormon Pagan, and she reaches out with her heart and abilities to help women with childbirth and trauma as she connects to this life through her children.

Art by Mara Berendt Friedman
As a teen, Janice converted to the LDS church as part of an attempt to cure herself of her lesbianism. She served a mission and married in the temple as part of her determination to be "fixed." Her journey to find her whole self — the wild woman, the lesbian, the feminist — led her into the depths of depression and to the brink of taking her own life where she was gifted with a deep realization that God loved her.

Janice will be watching the comments so she can respond to questions and issues brought up in her story.

After her mother converted to Mormonism, Stacey was baptized a member of the church at age eight. The church offered her a place of safety and stability in the midst of difficult family life. She went on to attend BYU, serve a mission, marry a returned missionary in the temple, and have four children. But all the while, she knew she was different. No matter how much she threw herself into being the best possible Mormon, there was always something hiding below the surface ... that she was a lesbian.

Stacey will be watching the comments so she can respond to questions and discuss issues brought up in her story.

Episode 9: Speaking of the Temple

Right click here to download the mp3.

Billings, Montana Temple by Kendall Davenport
Back in April, Juliane, another of our panelists, was asked to give a talk in church about temples. She has mixed feelings about the temple and many unanswered questions, so she wasn't sure what she would say. The talk that she ended up giving was written out in full before she gave it. Her talk is brave and beautiful.

This podcast presents her talk along with some context about preparing the talk and  her feelings about being married in the temple.

Juliane will be watching the comments so she can answer questions or discuss issues that are brought up in her talk.

Here is the full text of her talk, as published on her blog.

There will be another podcast soon that discusses the aftermath of this talk and goes into Juliane's history as convert from Germany.
